Sit Back Chair by Francesca Fertonani

Architect Francesca Fertonani has designed the Sit Back chair for Italian manufacturer SICEA.

From SICEA:

Sit Back is a chair in which each element is a characterising piece. The high back. The “suspended” structure: a chrome steel tube which forms the sleigh legs supports the wooden seat and accompanies the back. Available in Canaletto walnut and stained oak.

Lost & Found Upcycled Furniture

What once was lost is now found in Lost & Found’s Upcycled Furniture, a collection of stools and tables. Designed by UK-based design studio, &made, each piece features a brightly-colored base rescued from becoming trash coupled with a rough and irregular tree stump for a top. The rather unusual and unexpected combination represents &made’s goal desire to spark dialogue about our contemporary throw-away culture.

By using salvaged furniture for the base of each stool and table, each piece is a solid example of reducing waste by re-using what has already been made. The collection stands out in their aesthetic, providing a fresh sense of eclecticism without missing a beat on function. And with the use of salvaged bases, the pieces stay true to their name- that “lost” furniture can be “found” again in an environmentally conscious design.

&made is the vision of designers Dave Cameron and Toby Hadden, who say their studio is focused on “ethically conscious contemporary design.” The firm started in 2005 and is located in a former mid-20th century doss house overlooking the Thames River. The duo work in product, furniture and spatial design and have been featured at the MoMA in an exhibit called Design and the Elastic Mind.
